VSAT

VSAT is a satellite communications that allows us to access remote areas in Africa as well as, give us a redundancy route, in the event of any fault on the fiber cables.

KDN started by using satellite VSAT as the only technology available in the early 2003, until 2009 when fiber was launched through the undersea cables.

In 2003, the country was covered by VSAT, as 60-70% of the internet ran on the technology. Although the technology may seem old and outdated – given the data rates, capacity and distance covered by Fiber Optic technology – VSAT plays a major role as it serves as our redundancy route and better yet to access rural remote areas.

The Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) is a satellite communications device that allows reliable data transmission via satellite. It is the fastest technology compared to point to point connection, or dial up connection due to the fact that VSAT deploy the use of procedure to make connection which other communication system either don’t have or are not reliable.

Satellite communication systems that can be exploited for the provision of connectivity due to its advantages, such as: -Costs Insensitive to Distance -Single Platform service delivery (one-stop-shop) -Flexibility -Upgradeable

VSAT is mostly used for connectivity in remote areas or areas where other technologies cannot provide services
